Secrets to Never Fall Sick

Do you find yourself always under the weather? Do you take more sick leave than others at your workplace? Falling sick too often doesn't have to be a something you live with. Check out these secrets to stay healthy and never fall sick.

Nap in the afternoon

Doctors say the ideal nap time is 1 PM to 3 PM in the afternoon since this is when our bodies are most in need of rest. While the number and effectiveness of disease-fighting immune cells increase with more sleep, a lack of it has been found to promote health attack-causing calcium build up in the heart arteries, and restrict the production of the human growth hormone, which limits the body’s ability to repair itself.

Drink moderately

As opposed to popular perception, sipping a spirit or two increases longevity and decreases the risk of heart disease by 20 to 50 per cent. According to a study conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, people who drink moderately do not get frequently hospitalised and have fewer disabilities than the general population.

Eat yogurt

A diet devoid of dahi or yoghurt is incomplete. The probiotic, or good, living bacteria present in yogurt have a favourable impact on many gastrointestinal conditions. It also helps to lower blood pressure, decrease cholesterol and strengthen the immune system. Eat at least one serving of yogurt daily to reap its benefits.

Consume less

A recent study claims a calorie-restricted diet in which participants ate up to 25 per cent less than they did normally, reduced overall cholesterol, triglyceride levels and blood pressure. But this doesn't mean you go into a starvation mode. To avoid vitamin deficiencies, make sure that whatever you are eating is nutritionally dense. Avoid simple sugars, make sure your protein intake is sufficient and don’t forget to eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Steer clear of supplements, packaged and canned food; they do nothing to contribute to your health.

Turn to yoga

For time immemorial, Ayurveda has stressed the need for yoga in our daily lives. Yoga’s mindbody-breathing exercises strengthen and balance the immune system, stimulate it and effectively destroy sickness-causing microbes. Practising yoga regularly can reverse several risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure and sugar.

Walk about in office

Sitting for long hours is not only unavoidable, but it is seriously injurious to your health, even if you exercise regularly. The more time people spend seated, the higher the risk of obesity, heart diseases and death. So, if you work in front of a computer all day, ensure that you take breaks every 45 minutes to walk about.

Strengthen friendships

People who have a strong social support system have a healthy immune system and are less likely to succumb to inflammatory disease. Having no close friends increases the risk of having a first-time heart attack by about 50 per cent. To maximise the benefits of your social network, meet them over lunch or go shopping together, or chat with them over the phone. But avoid e-mail or Facebook unless your folks stay in a different country or city.

Georgia Aquarium The Largest Aquarium in the World

Georgia Aquarium The Largest Aquarium in the World
The world's largest aquarium is located in Atlanta, Georgia. It houses more than 120,000 animals,
representing 500 species in 8.5 million gallons of water. There are 60 different habitats with
12,000 square feet of viewing windows, and it cost $290 million to build.Georgia Aquarium was the result of the vision of one enterprising businessman Bernard Marcus,
who dreamed of presenting Atlanta with an aquarium that would encourage both education and
economic growth. Marcus was so inspired by aquariums that after visiting 56 of them in 13 countries

with his wife, he donated $250 million toward what was to become Georgia Aquarium. Additional$40 million came in as corporate donations. The land was donated by the Coca Cola Company.

The Georgia Aquarium has five separate galleries arranged around a central atrium. They are
Georgia Explorer, Tropical Diver, Ocean Voyager, Cold-Water Quest and River Scout. Tanks within the galleries house a diverse population of animals, including whales, sharks, penguins, otters, electric eels, rays, seahorses, sea stars, crabs and a variety of fish of all sizes.
Building and running such a huge complex is no easy task. The organization employs hundreds of staff that take care of everything from feeding the animals to cleaning the tanks, assisted by many dozens of computers that monitors tank levels, temperatures and pumping flow, all of which arecritical to animal health and system operation.

The Ocean Voyager tank, the largest habitat, holds three-fourths of the aquarium's water and
the aquarium's central attraction – the whale shark. A slow-moving conveyor belt takes visitors
through a 100-foot acrylic tunnel under the tank, letting them view the fish from below. Other
aquarium exhibits include the 800,000 gallon beluga whale enclosure, smaller tanks and multipletouch tanks where visitors can get hands-on experience with aquatic animals.

Below are some statistics that will give you an idea of the scale of operation in this gigantic facility:
To fill the tanks, the aquarium pipes 8 million gallons of ordinary tap water mixed with 1.5 million pounds of salt to make it saline. 218 pumps, 141 sand filters and 70 protein skimmers keep the tank waters clean and habitable. These pumps move 261,000 gallons of water per minute. The tank turnover time -- the amount of time it takes for all the water in a tank to be filtered and cleaned – is two hours.

To store food for the animals, the aquarium has a freezer that holds 20,000 pounds of food as well as a refrigerator that holds 6,000 pounds.
To treat sick animals, the Georgia Aquarium has a veterinary services and conservation medicine facility in a 5,800 square foot unit with 15 people on staff, and it houses 26 treatment tanks (think hospital beds). The unit is fully equipped with a surgery and radiography unit with endoscopy, ultrasound and x-ray machines.

WITH REGARDS,

Albert
